UFINET expands in Brazil with acquisition of NB Telecom in Rio de Janeiro

UFINET, the provider of wholesale fiber optic infrastructure operators in Latin America, signed an agreement to acquire a majority stake in NB Telecom, one of Rio de Janeiro’s main telecommunications operators, which operates a fiber optic network of more than 500 km that connects all the main data centers, POPs and business centers in the city. This transaction marks UFINET ‘s second acquisition in Brazil, following São Paulo-based Netell in 2019. Entering the second largest market in Brazil and one of the main business centers in Latin America is a major milestone and reveals, once again, UFINET ‘s solid and continuous growth in the region.

We believe this is a very important step for both us and our customers. UFINET will leverage and expand NB Telecom’ s network to increase our presence in Brazil, providing our global customers with wholesale services of unparalleled quality and capillarity. Our objective is loud and clear: to continue the steady growth of UFINET ‘s business in the Latin American region. “said Stefano Lorenzi, Executive Chairman of UFINET.

This transaction represents an important milestone for our group. NB Telecom has a strategic network in Rio de Janeiro, which includes overhead and subway capillarity between commercial buildings, data centers and the most important POPs in the city. This is a key expansion, not only from a strategic point of view, but also to better serve the needs of our customers in Brazil. “commented UFINET‘s CEO, Iñigo García del Cerro.

This acquisition creates an important platform for our customers. We can now offer an international footprint that connects Rio de Janeiro to the Americas on an unprecedented level. It has always been a dream to see our company join forces with such a globally respected organization as UFINET. In these 21 years of our history, we have built a company that seeks excellence in quality and customer service, and it is great to see all our work and dedication culminating in this new chapter for the company and the customers of Rio de Janeiro.added Edgard Sanchez Leal and Pedro Augusto Oliveira Alves, co-founders of NB Telecom.

Upon completion of the transaction, which is subject to the fulfillment of the conditions that normally apply to such transactions in Brazil, this agreement will result in the acquisition of a majority stake in NB Telecom and its subsequent control by UFINET. The transaction is expected to close in the next few weeks.

UFINET is the leading neutral wholesale operator of telecommunications infrastructure in Latin America, with more than 75,000 km of fiber optics deployed in Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina and Chile.
