UFINET joins efforts Panama’s Government to provide telecom support to people with disabilities
On December 10, UFINET successfully installed a Satellite Internet in the Las Palmitas Sector, Cacao Corregimiento in Capira, Province of Panamá Oeste. This connectivity was done along with SENADIS (National Secretariat for Disability), the AIG (National Authority for Government Innovation), and a representative of Cacao. The Government of Panama and UFINET worked together to provide this connection in commemoration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2020, and it provides support and internet connectivity to rural areas.
The link was successfully installed despite difficult weather conditions and rugged, rough terrain which makes it very tough to access. Both the installation and assessment of the proper functioning of the satellite Internet service was carried out in the home of Mr. Diógenes Zamora, a young disabled man dependent on a wheelchair, who lives in a remote rural area with difficult access and without the possibility of having other telecommunications technologies. This link will provide him with a great advance to achieve his dream: to carry out his university studies at a distance.
This kind of connection represents a huge milestone for remote communities and can allow many new people to join the world of digital literacy.
UFINET, connecting Panama with the world.
