In this new era of home office, an exponential growth of bandwidth has been perceived across all telecommunication networks. This supposes a very relevant change that makes us see the need to renew investments.
The key to home office is having good connectivity. This represents a paradigm shift in all networks, a need for greater investment in all countries to bring fiber to all homes.
The 5G networks that were scheduled to be deployed in several years will probably be accelerated in this new scenario. Internet access will become more important, it will be seen as a universal good, as a basic broadband service, not only in large cities but also in rural locations. We can no longer afford to have the digital breach in which connectivity in big cities is good and in rural areas is deficient.
All of the above will enhance the acceleration of a trend that we have been realizing and that has increased with this crisis (Covid-19) and with this paradigm shift to working from home, which is that networks must be able to withstand a higher traffic. You can see it clearly in the way this crisis has been endured in countries where broadband is a reality and there is a high percentage of households with fiber optic connections versus countries where other types of technologies are still used and these networks have not been able to support this growth.
